Manga Artist/Creator Shigeru Mizuki Has passed away

I feel lately I am reporting the obituaries for anime and manga artists. (I feel like I might need therapy soon if we keep losing veteran talent like this.) The Artist/Creator of the known eerie manga GeGeGe no Kitaro passed away this morning in Tokyo, according to Nikkan Sports. Shigeru Mizuki was 93 years old.

GeGeGe no Kitaro made it’s debuted in 1960 and moved forward to spawn anime adaptations and Sentai films. His manga, and anime, reignited the country’s love with the yokai folklore and legends. Here are some samples of his work with one I know fans will know and love from the Godzilla dayz.

Before being a full-time mangaka, Mizuki served in World War II. While being treated for malaria in New Guinea, his hospital was bombed by the Allies, and he lost his left arm. Through manga, Mizuki also detailed his war experiences and how he developed such a strong relationship with the New Guinea tribespeople of Tolai villagers on Rabaul, on the island of New Guinea. There is even a film about his time in the military and with the village A Cinema media was made of his time during WWII in Rabaul, entitled “The Noble Death Witnessed” by Producer/Director Kitaro Ga Mita Gyokusai. Not sure if Mizuki’s latest manga is titled Watashi no Hibi /わたしの日々 has been completed or not and if has, will the publishing house race to place it on the shelf with the news of his passing?

Mizuki has kept busy,by producing new art and manga well into his 90s and on the social media outlet of Twitter, showing a culinary perchance for hamburgers, sweets, and coffee, as well as life itself. He will be missed not only by family but by his extended families as well The Tolia, and his many fans over the years.

Anime Banzai 2015 Review

Hello from me!

Ok so it’s now been a week and I can finally get down to writing this review on Anime Banzai. Of the guests I did see they were alumni to AB. David Vincent who is always a pleasure to see and talk with over general subjects and sometime current projects he is working on w/o revealing to much due to contractral agreements and  such. My Waifu and I did not get a chance to sit and indulge any spirits with guests as or friends, in fact My Waifu spent most of her time and bless heart on it on a cosplay for our eldest daughter who was cosplaying Robin from Fire Emblem a Game from the NES 3DS system and has some hold over the video gaming RPG community. She spent total time possibly 34 hours of her time including Hotel room time during the Convention on helping finishing it on the Second day of the convention late that morning and even then it seems she was pretty much exhausted and wasn’t able to enjoy the convention as much as she should have from past conventions.

During the Convention My Waifu and I did had some time to ourselves to a degree, like shopping at the Second hand Sale AB holds each convention, this time however it was held on the first day of the convention and not on the second as it is usually set on, and it was also in the afternoon rather than the evening. My hope is that they keep it like that to be honest. I like having the option to be able to look at the sellers tables and see what they have to part with and find that special item or manga that is being sought. I scored a BGC OVA dual Disk set and Accel World Season one set and a Five inch tall Assault Type Gundam with stand and weapons included.

Thanks to AsianBoy950 for the YT link

During the convention I was able to get a few suggestions for anime viewing. Saw Log Horizon and have started watching that seems good for a Player Trapped in a Video Game world anime series.  I also got exposed to Sketchbook Full color which I have not yet watched but have it ready to view when I am done with Log Horizon. Oh and I almost forgot to mention that Accel World one of my favorite series is in fact also getting a Second Season it seems and they are calling Accel World Infinite Burst! This is also awesome due to the fact we’ve almost waited what, four maybe five years for the Second installment on a great series. What I am also hoping for is that a Sword art online and Accel World OVA Special will happen as well during the Second season run of Accel World, but back to the review.

Steve “Warky” Nunez who is also an AB alumni had an excellent panel/show as well this year in the main events hall. Everyone seemed to have an excellent time he showed off a bit of some of his previous work as well as some new musical interludes. The Family and I do enjoy his antics and musical skills. He’s been involved in a few shows television wise as well, and seems to have some projects that will be or are already in the works production wise. I look forward to them as well and will update you readers on that when news comes available on it.

Carter Reid of Zombie Nation and his Waifu were also on hand at the artist alley lending his artistic talents for and on commissions of Attendees and requests plus his Waifu has broken out into the jewelry side of business and has a Jewelry line she has created in addition to Carter’s Artwork and Web Comic. My Waifu herself purchased a lovely bracelet / earring set from her last convention as well. It’s always a pleasure running into them and chatting. We also found on a side note two soot sprites for our love for Ghibli and Totoro which I tagged on my FB as my Waifu and I.  😀

Whereas the events were fun and all and we did love the Zelda Based Scavenger Hunt Linda’s daughter and she had come up with and the hard work and effort of the volunteers assisted with on the hand crafted Link items for the event. There was also two musical events for everyone as well at AB The Final Fantasy themed Formal for Day one’s Evening festivities and The Techno Electro Dance Day Two’s evening of festivities that were well received, however there were some incidents during The Techno Electro Dance which Xander whose event it was will be looking into and discussing at the first meeting for Anime Banzai 2016, which I hope goes well as the incidents do need to be looked into and investigated and handled all of which will not be discussed here at all. It is and will be something handled internally with The Anime Banzai Staff and Founders.

I am looking forward to next year’s Event and will be following up on what and who may be showing up at Anime Banzai 2016, so stay tuned and stay informed. That’s it for me for this year’s Anime Banzai review, and as always comments is always welcome, but again keep it civil as well.

Salt Lake City Comicon Review 2015

Hey everyone, I am back from Salt Lake Comicon! Spending some quality time with my wife and #SLCC15 #EPIC .My Wife and I took in the first panel of the Convention which was Marina Sirtis and her panel was pretty funny.  It was fantastic, we took in a number of panels and even got interviewed by none other than Skelator Ace Report of #IdiotBoxProductions Podcast aka #IBP AT 1:06 CHECK IT OUT #SkelatorAceReporter

I didn’t know that Menopause was such a big part of her life as of late. ( Oo; really…. not joking need to check it out) then we just sat in the grand ballroom for the next Panel which was the one my waifu (My wife) and I were waiting for the Scott Wilson Panel. He’s had a long filming career and I didn’t even know he was in the late samurai movie. The Q & A were pretty funny as well and afterwards we strolled around checking the Dealers Floor and checking out some of the awesome Cosplayers that were there. Plus #JohnBarrowman was there #GOTEAMBARROWMAN ! Oh and we got to hear him sing, brought a tear to these old eyes. Here is the panel itself enjoy it please!

I ran into #ShelyLundberg and #NathanJodzko #DenverBradbury and other friends while my wife and I were there. Got a chance to get #PhelpBrothers autographs, as well as #JennaColeman. I was Cosplaying the entrepreneuring Aperture/BlackMesa Double agent-Scientist (Since I could) and ran into the #Glitch booth and found an excellent #Aperture Polo I can wear at work. Wife bought some small items from artists alley. I got a ton of pics as well and I will update this later when I have access to my camera soon.

I think the only real issue I have with #SaltLakeComicon is the fact they close the dealers room WAY too early. I’ve been #SDCC as some of you know in my younger days, and I will say the dealers room there stays open till 9 pm for two of the 3 days it was open and then till 3 to 4 pm on the last day for tear down and clean up. But they kept the rooms open because they knew there would be those that came in late due to work or whatever, but it gave them a chance to get the items they wanted to get for their collection/cosplay/library/props. On a side note I am hoping that #SaltLakeComicon gets #PeterCapaldi to come to #FanX1016 that way I can get his autograph with #jennacolemans ‘s on the photo we picked up at The Con a couple of days ago.

Oh yea, #ChrisEvans and some of the marvel avengers were there too. 😛

OH Ok, fine yea he was there with #HayleyAtwell #SebastianStan and #AnthonyMackie they did a panel or two togther as a group and individually as well. The Celebrity Row was PACKED to the brim Saturday for autographs and pictures with the Marvel team and I think we might even see #SLCC become one of Marvel’s Fave Conventions to come to as well in the near future, after all #Stanlee did say we had the Greatest Convention so far. My hat is tipped to #DanFarr and #BryanBradenburg for a successful Convention and turn out, and I do hope that they’ll consider having the dealers room open just a little bit longer on the next Convention or maybe even at #FanX to experiment and see how the crowds react to it and see if more purchasing and people come as well.

Dragon Age News & Initial Impressions.

Hello folks, Max aka Galtrol, here to give a little gaming news.  I just started to play Dragon Age: Origins.  Yes, I’m the kind of player that digs in the bargain bin to play stuff on a budget.  It is fortuitous as just in the last few days, some various Dragon Age related news has just popped up.

  • Christ Priestly leaves Bioware and is moving on to PAX Australia
  • Stone Prisoner DLC is now free

Now at this stage, I am still pretty early in the game.  I am finding the mechanics of the game a little awkward, and taking a little getting used to.  It took me a while to figure out that spamming the attack button was unnecessary, my main clue was my character was constantly saying, “Alright, alright…”  One thing that bugs me is that they bothered you to set up a “voice” type for your character, but you never hear it in the dialogue.  What was the point?  Maybe they decided that they didn’t want to do six times the voice acting work.  Maybe the reason will become more evident later in the game.

I usually try and avoid FAQs on the first playthrough of a game, although I am finding there is quite a bit of temptation, as the RPG details are a plenty.  Skill trees, reminiscent to Diablo often leads to questions, such as, will I be able to max out everything?

Then there was the world traveling mechanic.  I was expecting to walk from town to town instead of the Map technique.  I guess not, at least not at this point.  I guess they wanted to deal with a bunch of small sand boxes instead of a huge one, of which I can understand.  It can help reduce any random off the wall glitches that may happen in an obscure part of the map.

Of course there is the usual RPG elements that I hated to deal with on pen an paper, and so glad the system takes care of, such as encumbrance,  money management.

I think I’m doing well for someone who has forgone studying the manual, (except the pics that tell you what gauge is for) and using my RPG experience to figure out all the little elements that may or may not be obvious.
