Salt Lake Comic-Con VS San Diego Comic-Con International

So, this is still going on?  San Diego Comicon actually went to the length to attempt to issue a gag order on Salt Lake Comic-con? Really? Seriously? Why is SDCC so butt hurt over this? Money? Popularity? I don’t get it.  I used to live in San Diego, went to SDCC quite a number of times as an Attendee and as a Volunteer and at that time Tickets were about Forty Dollars for the 4 day Event which is reasonable for late 80’s early 90’s and there were not VIP or Gold passes it was either you were a Dealer or an Attendee. Now I get it, revenue building opportunities I get it. Both sides offer some pretty cool deals for the what you get  but the best times to get the deals is went the events are closed and prepping for next year’s event which is usually 2 months or so after said events end.

I’ve been researching as well on this a little byte ( 😀 ) and I can’t believe this but from what I have seen and such, it seems SDCC is really about being butthurt because a Comic-con other than San Diego is getting more exposure, coverage and positive PR press and due to the lawsuit SDCC files because of it are now being mocked.

“It is appropriate, however, to impose greater restrictions on the free speech rights of trial participants (such as parties and their attorneys) than on the rights of nonparticipants. Levine, 764 F.2d at 595. As the Ninth Circuit noted when considering a district court’s order restricting statements of trial participants, “several other courts have considered similar restraining orders. The overwhelming majority of those courts have upheld the restraining orders.” Id. at 596 (citing numerous cases in which restraining order on trial participants were upheld).”

Well, all I can say is you asked for it. You threw a pissy whiny hissy fit because *again* it was not the center of attention in the “media” circle of the fandoms and related ilk. I will also stand with my statement and belief that if San Diego Comic-con is not going to stand down walk away and lick it’s wounds and try to become a better event again  but currently with this whole gag order stunt.

Accordingly, the district court’s order may be upheld only if the government establishes that:

  1. the activity restrained poses either a clear and present danger or a serious and imminent threat to a protected competing interest
  2. the order is narrowly drawn
  3. less restrictive alternatives are not available

Could also sanction their legal team for a frivolous, meritless case, let alone what if New York Comic-con decided to throw their hat in the ring? Because New York Comic-con started it in 1964 if we’re going to do dates and such.  With that being said it’s my opinion that the other global or otherwise known as “international” Comic-cons or other wise. But you know what? Go to  and check up on it yourselves, form your own opinions, post up if you’d like as well. Would love to read your opinions, good bad or otherwise.

Anime Banzai 2015 Review

Hello from me!

Ok so it’s now been a week and I can finally get down to writing this review on Anime Banzai. Of the guests I did see they were alumni to AB. David Vincent who is always a pleasure to see and talk with over general subjects and sometime current projects he is working on w/o revealing to much due to contractral agreements and  such. My Waifu and I did not get a chance to sit and indulge any spirits with guests as or friends, in fact My Waifu spent most of her time and bless heart on it on a cosplay for our eldest daughter who was cosplaying Robin from Fire Emblem a Game from the NES 3DS system and has some hold over the video gaming RPG community. She spent total time possibly 34 hours of her time including Hotel room time during the Convention on helping finishing it on the Second day of the convention late that morning and even then it seems she was pretty much exhausted and wasn’t able to enjoy the convention as much as she should have from past conventions.

During the Convention My Waifu and I did had some time to ourselves to a degree, like shopping at the Second hand Sale AB holds each convention, this time however it was held on the first day of the convention and not on the second as it is usually set on, and it was also in the afternoon rather than the evening. My hope is that they keep it like that to be honest. I like having the option to be able to look at the sellers tables and see what they have to part with and find that special item or manga that is being sought. I scored a BGC OVA dual Disk set and Accel World Season one set and a Five inch tall Assault Type Gundam with stand and weapons included.

Thanks to AsianBoy950 for the YT link

During the convention I was able to get a few suggestions for anime viewing. Saw Log Horizon and have started watching that seems good for a Player Trapped in a Video Game world anime series.  I also got exposed to Sketchbook Full color which I have not yet watched but have it ready to view when I am done with Log Horizon. Oh and I almost forgot to mention that Accel World one of my favorite series is in fact also getting a Second Season it seems and they are calling Accel World Infinite Burst! This is also awesome due to the fact we’ve almost waited what, four maybe five years for the Second installment on a great series. What I am also hoping for is that a Sword art online and Accel World OVA Special will happen as well during the Second season run of Accel World, but back to the review.

Steve “Warky” Nunez who is also an AB alumni had an excellent panel/show as well this year in the main events hall. Everyone seemed to have an excellent time he showed off a bit of some of his previous work as well as some new musical interludes. The Family and I do enjoy his antics and musical skills. He’s been involved in a few shows television wise as well, and seems to have some projects that will be or are already in the works production wise. I look forward to them as well and will update you readers on that when news comes available on it.

Carter Reid of Zombie Nation and his Waifu were also on hand at the artist alley lending his artistic talents for and on commissions of Attendees and requests plus his Waifu has broken out into the jewelry side of business and has a Jewelry line she has created in addition to Carter’s Artwork and Web Comic. My Waifu herself purchased a lovely bracelet / earring set from her last convention as well. It’s always a pleasure running into them and chatting. We also found on a side note two soot sprites for our love for Ghibli and Totoro which I tagged on my FB as my Waifu and I.  😀

Whereas the events were fun and all and we did love the Zelda Based Scavenger Hunt Linda’s daughter and she had come up with and the hard work and effort of the volunteers assisted with on the hand crafted Link items for the event. There was also two musical events for everyone as well at AB The Final Fantasy themed Formal for Day one’s Evening festivities and The Techno Electro Dance Day Two’s evening of festivities that were well received, however there were some incidents during The Techno Electro Dance which Xander whose event it was will be looking into and discussing at the first meeting for Anime Banzai 2016, which I hope goes well as the incidents do need to be looked into and investigated and handled all of which will not be discussed here at all. It is and will be something handled internally with The Anime Banzai Staff and Founders.

I am looking forward to next year’s Event and will be following up on what and who may be showing up at Anime Banzai 2016, so stay tuned and stay informed. That’s it for me for this year’s Anime Banzai review, and as always comments is always welcome, but again keep it civil as well.

UNREAL TOURNAMENT DEATHMATCH UE4 Video Footage! (And an update on our UE4 Project)

Hey, and how-do! It looks like we got some really cool news last night. Unreal Tournament is back in livid Unreal 4 Code and Color! These coders, modelers, texture artists and testers have gone through some extreme coding and programming on getting us the gamers UT4 DM! Here is some Video Footage of this awesome team testing out that with is fresh start from a still thriving game. Bruce and I have been quite busy with our own lives and we haven’t had any time for our own project on UE4.

However, we now have a Character concept Artist who is quite creative and talented and is currently working on her degree and wanting to get into the game development field and being a fellow cosplayer involved with The Utah Deadpool Corp we knew she was prefect for our project and with alos being local is a added plus, Ms. Dani Powers has done quite a number of her own characters, she has a particular hobby/obsession with Deadpool and who can blame her! Wade is the awesome Antihero and he is let’s be honest here he’s gone thru some serious traumatic redemption trials he deserves slack and benefit of the doubt. We very excited to see the characters given a fresh reboot look for UE4, so stick around watch not only The Cybernauts Podcast, but Team Jade Phoenix as well with our new Concept artist Dani *DeadPool* Powers!

Stay tuned we will be back in June to kick off our Anime Summer Series review!

MMO’s are they dead or just more tightly knit These days?

Hey peeps, yea it’s me with another article on gaming. I was looking around earlier this morning checking on some of my old haunts and posting up and some the forums, when I ran across a person I known for some time and had broken ties with for issues too dumb to really go into anymore. But she was explaining how the MMO Community has lacked in the interaction of camaraderie during the quests and while in the tavern, inn, space bar, Hot Disco underground rave club.  This is what she said with my thoughts in between them.

What I mean Joe, is that every time I log into Star Trek Online, or Star Wars the old republic, or Elf Quest, I can find people everywhere, but no one is talking. No one is interacting with the hundreds or thousands of other people also playing the game around them. If you manage to get a group no one talks, no one interacts; they just do the mission and then quit the party and run away again.

“Which I don’t think is really the case here. There will be times where there are those types of players that are in it for the tanking got the experience points and bails and that’s all they do, or care to do.  There are those out there that are just in it for the game, not the interaction so much. I for one am the type that does like the interaction and the helping of others with their crops, cattle, questing, and helping the surrounding lands/planets/Dimensional planes of my comrades. We do meet in the guild hall and discuss things of both the real world and that which of the MMO we may be in at the time.  But it’s because we’re part of that guild/order that brings that sense of belonging to the game and that interaction “she” is talking there is a lack of. “

I remember hanging in the Kobold dens outside of Quynos for hours in EQ, just sitting around in a room joking with others, telling fake in world and real world stories while waiting for a member of the group to bring the train back. I remember the screams of text joy when someone managed to get the sword from the big scary kobold and then going back to hanging with the group.

“I remember hanging out at Ten Forward in STO, and talking with my crew and some of the other ships crew members. Oh wait “I” still do! This is because I don’t stay away for long periods of time or I at least reach out every week or so seeing what’s going in game  in between taking care of my kids for the most part they help around the house now days and only need me when they need a ride somewhere or help with their homework or Gee, having to change rooms so they can have privacy of their own  but they need the old man to haul their furniture upstairs, downstairs, move the old family TV into the oldest room so they can have their console hooked up to it, or the other one of the twin’s needs the bed this way so it’s not so cold in the winter and being away from the window is a good thing.

I remember the bar that was also the thief’s guild of “bards” telling stories to full PC crowds for a good hour and people talking and cheering and everything imaginable.

“I remember being on the plains light saber in hand and running into battle against Sith legions and bringing justice back to the planet and the sector. I also remember hanging in the Cantina discussing where we should go to next to train and expand some of our skills. “

The genre to me is dead not in that no one is playing but that they are no long Massive Multiplayer just massive amounts of players all playing next to each other but not with each other.

“I don’t know what servers she’s hanging out in, but the ones I have been in there is always someone to say “YO, what’s up?” and hang out with or adventure quest with. The Genre to me isn’t dead, quite the opposite. I feel more in contact sometimes in cyberspace than I do in reality which sometimes can be a bad thing, but that’s an entirely different level/subject. I can say that the MMO Genre is not dead by any means, it’s more closed maybe like a private community or HOA Settlement compound.”

That’s it for this subject for now. I’m off to Wartune and talk with the guild on some improvements and maybe even start a party or two for Daru and Gold but more for experince! 😀 BATTLE ON FOR GREAT JUSTICE!

Review: ToshoCon The Utah West Jordan Anime / Manga Convention.

 ToshoCon The Aftermath Review

Alright, so it’s the end of the weekend and we all go back to work in the morning. I do have to admit I did enjoy myself somewhat at this event. There was the cosplaying and panels like the hetalia one of my daughters ended up being on the panel (not sure how that one came about either). There was a Manga swap where you bring a book in take a different book out, which was fun and helpful towards the library system as well. There was a great turn out.

The Anime Crafts was well handled and received; lots of the attendees had fun. There was a photography setup for those attending the convention (Yea I got one of myself there). There was also a viewing room playing some of the more recent popular anime series out there, Black Butler, Tsubasa, and ect. There was a dealer’s room and also Anime Banzai to gather some recruit attendees as well for the last day of pre-registration for the Convention in Layton on Oct 18th thru the 21st.  There was even a small dance there as well that the attendees had a fun blast at and enjoyed the time.

Now here is what in my opinion needed to be looked into and fixed.  There was supposed to be a weapons check, there was none and two attendees were seen bringing in two weapon grade swords which if there had been a weapons check? They would have been detained and told go the fu** home and come back w/o the weapons. Unless they were made of foam or cardboard or plastic, they were NOT ALLOWED.

So that will be something to look into and create a team detail for.  Also The Cosplay event, I’d say about 85% of the cosplay that was there were online costumes or from a local cosplay shop, which really did disappoint me. I loved however those that did create their own cosplays of their characters, those I do tip my hat to. I did see a number of hetalia and Homestuck there and there a few bronies as well. There was even some sailor scouts and Vocaloids as well who had created their designs and who should have won at the cosplay portion of the event.

Also, I saw “Epic Games” was to be there as well as a vendor, I come and I see “Epic *puzzle* & Games” instead being there as a vendor. When I hear and see “Epic Games” being at a con I expect the gaming studio “Epic Games” to be there. That was very disappointing. The Game room, no offense to the card gamers, but it was 99% Yugio Card gamers, no video consoles or arcade booths just Card games and not a wide variety either. Triple slash Studios from the U of U had submitted a Vendor’s form to attend ToshoCon and help out in the game room with demoing their game that’s on the X-Box Arcade store, Magnetic by Nature an awesome arcade side scroller with an Art-Deco feel to it, with the undertones of helping teach people on how magnetics works as well. But somehow no one had received nor got back to them.

Word was that there would be food vendors for the food court out by the outdoor amphitheater. There was a Grinder catering truck where it was five dollars for a grilled cheese sandwich, 8 dollars for a semi decent sub.  I am very likely to throw my hat in in just to get a refresher on convention operations and practices. The Dance was supposed to be from 8 pm to 10 pm, it ended at roughly at 9:15 pm and at 9:45 The PA System explained to the attendees that didn’t have a ride home to start calling their rides for pickup.

So, yea mixed feelings on this event. It was a cool event to have, but there was indeed some areas that need some extreme looking into before next year’s event, which will happen. ToshoCon 2.0 will help next year, time frame not discusses as of yet, but I assure you I will keep apprised of the situations as they come up and come to light on this. For The Cybernauts field review of ToshCon, this is Madarame Harunobu  signing off…………………

Cosplayer Pillows: The Creepiness involved.

Ok seriously, this cosplay body pillow incident really grabs my goat. Now I get the whole “You buy a pass to the con, your image could be used for advertising/promotional images”. I’m all for that, I get it and approve. However, when someone takes your photo for supposed free photo-shoots? An alarm in my head goes off. Why would this person be doing it for free? Then to come find out they are placing thee images on Body Pillows with both a front and rear motif and making profit on it w/o the consent of the cosplay/DA Member/Cosplay Prof. and that doesn’t Jive in my book.

The image above was taken from his gallery and set as a prime example of what he’s doing with the images and Body Pillows.

This is not only creepy, it’s illegal (unless you are under contact or signed a photo release agreement of some sort and read the fine pint.) This person is more or less going to appear in court and get raked over the coals you can see it coming. I hope all of the people involved are filing a class action suite against this twatwaffle. You don’t do that to somebody without their *signed* consent and even then where the hell is your moral fiber you dingleberry!

A request to our Listeners and their friends.

Defiance The SyFy TV Show and Game By Trion Worlds Review Ep#29.

Both I and one of our other podcasters Bruce decided to review Defiance on Syfy and The Game from Trion Worlds. It also gave us a chance to discuss the game both from the PC view as well as an X-Box edition and there are some debatable subjects that do come to the table as we discussed the nuances that bothered both us with our experiences with the game.

Definitely had some opinions on the show as well, as we went into comparisons and what was done quite well and what fell short of what’s been worked on over the last four years in preparation for this venture melding of TV with Game. Anyways, here it is, and as usual please feel free to leave comments and opinions.

Leiji Matsumoto Created back 1977-79 an original manga, the main character Captain Harlock who rebels against the global government and fights for humanity with his crew of 40 and his space battleship The Arcadia. This manga become so popular and spread like wild fire that a 1978-1979 television anime series born, along with a movie and its sequel, Arcadia of My Youth: Endless Orbit SSX. I grew up on Captain Harlock in my early teen years on television after school. I wouldn’t watch G.I Joe or Captain Planet or mask. I was hooked on Battle of the Planets, Star Blazers, and Robotech, reading Ninja High School and Eastman’s TMNT, and the ilk.

When I heard that Japanese Cinema writer Harutoshi Fukui was involved in this I was like *WHOA!* this should be truly awesome! I mean Harutoshi has been noted for his works with Mobile Suit Gundam UC novels, and live-action Bōkoku no Aegis has refitted the story to that of the current modern society. Also along with him is Shinji Aramaki noted for some of his works Appleseed being just one example, is directing with the latest cinema-graphic technology the same scale and direction as a Hollywood production. The film has Toei Animation backing them up with a budget estimated at roughly over 30 million U.S. dollars? If this preview as a taste of what to expect, I think I know where I will be when it does hit state-side theatrical release. I’m betting they might even preview this at SDCC 2013 as well!

Captain Harlock the Movie is slated for a Theatrical release in the 3rd Quarter of 2013.
