Salt Lake Comic-Con VS San Diego Comic-Con International

So, this is still going on?  San Diego Comicon actually went to the length to attempt to issue a gag order on Salt Lake Comic-con? Really? Seriously? Why is SDCC so butt hurt over this? Money? Popularity? I don’t get it.  I used to live in San Diego, went to SDCC quite a number of times as an Attendee and as a Volunteer and at that time Tickets were about Forty Dollars for the 4 day Event which is reasonable for late 80’s early 90’s and there were not VIP or Gold passes it was either you were a Dealer or an Attendee. Now I get it, revenue building opportunities I get it. Both sides offer some pretty cool deals for the what you get  but the best times to get the deals is went the events are closed and prepping for next year’s event which is usually 2 months or so after said events end.

I’ve been researching as well on this a little byte ( 😀 ) and I can’t believe this but from what I have seen and such, it seems SDCC is really about being butthurt because a Comic-con other than San Diego is getting more exposure, coverage and positive PR press and due to the lawsuit SDCC files because of it are now being mocked.

“It is appropriate, however, to impose greater restrictions on the free speech rights of trial participants (such as parties and their attorneys) than on the rights of nonparticipants. Levine, 764 F.2d at 595. As the Ninth Circuit noted when considering a district court’s order restricting statements of trial participants, “several other courts have considered similar restraining orders. The overwhelming majority of those courts have upheld the restraining orders.” Id. at 596 (citing numerous cases in which restraining order on trial participants were upheld).”

Well, all I can say is you asked for it. You threw a pissy whiny hissy fit because *again* it was not the center of attention in the “media” circle of the fandoms and related ilk. I will also stand with my statement and belief that if San Diego Comic-con is not going to stand down walk away and lick it’s wounds and try to become a better event again  but currently with this whole gag order stunt.

Accordingly, the district court’s order may be upheld only if the government establishes that:

  1. the activity restrained poses either a clear and present danger or a serious and imminent threat to a protected competing interest
  2. the order is narrowly drawn
  3. less restrictive alternatives are not available

Capture

Could also sanction their legal team for a frivolous, meritless case, let alone what if New York Comic-con decided to throw their hat in the ring? Because New York Comic-con started it in 1964 if we’re going to do dates and such.  With that being said it’s my opinion that the other global or otherwise known as “international” Comic-cons or other wise. But you know what? Go to http://saltlakecomiccon.com/san-diego-comic-con-intl-v-salt-lake-comic-con/  and check up on it yourselves, form your own opinions, post up if you’d like as well. Would love to read your opinions, good bad or otherwise.

Anime Banzai 2015 Review

Hello from me!

Ok so it’s now been a week and I can finally get down to writing this review on Anime Banzai. Of the guests I did see they were alumni to AB. David Vincent who is always a pleasure to see and talk with over general subjects and sometime current projects he is working on w/o revealing to much due to contractral agreements and  such. My Waifu and I did not get a chance to sit and indulge any spirits with guests as or friends, in fact My Waifu spent most of her time and bless heart on it on a cosplay for our eldest daughter who was cosplaying Robin from Fire Emblem a Game from the NES 3DS system and has some hold over the video gaming RPG community. She spent total time possibly 34 hours of her time including Hotel room time during the Convention on helping finishing it on the Second day of the convention late that morning and even then it seems she was pretty much exhausted and wasn’t able to enjoy the convention as much as she should have from past conventions.

During the Convention My Waifu and I did had some time to ourselves to a degree, like shopping at the Second hand Sale AB holds each convention, this time however it was held on the first day of the convention and not on the second as it is usually set on, and it was also in the afternoon rather than the evening. My hope is that they keep it like that to be honest. I like having the option to be able to look at the sellers tables and see what they have to part with and find that special item or manga that is being sought. I scored a BGC OVA dual Disk set and Accel World Season one set and a Five inch tall Assault Type Gundam with stand and weapons included.

Thanks to AsianBoy950 for the YT link

During the convention I was able to get a few suggestions for anime viewing. Saw Log Horizon and have started watching that seems good for a Player Trapped in a Video Game world anime series.  I also got exposed to Sketchbook Full color which I have not yet watched but have it ready to view when I am done with Log Horizon. Oh and I almost forgot to mention that Accel World one of my favorite series is in fact also getting a Second Season it seems and they are calling Accel World Infinite Burst! This is also awesome due to the fact we’ve almost waited what, four maybe five years for the Second installment on a great series. What I am also hoping for is that a Sword art online and Accel World OVA Special will happen as well during the Second season run of Accel World, but back to the review.

Steve “Warky” Nunez who is also an AB alumni had an excellent panel/show as well this year in the main events hall. Everyone seemed to have an excellent time he showed off a bit of some of his previous work as well as some new musical interludes. The Family and I do enjoy his antics and musical skills. He’s been involved in a few shows television wise as well, and seems to have some projects that will be or are already in the works production wise. I look forward to them as well and will update you readers on that when news comes available on it.

Carter Reid of Zombie Nation and his Waifu were also on hand at the artist alley lending his artistic talents for and on commissions of Attendees and requests plus his Waifu has broken out into the jewelry side of business and has a Jewelry line she has created in addition to Carter’s Artwork and Web Comic. My Waifu herself purchased a lovely bracelet / earring set from her last convention as well. It’s always a pleasure running into them and chatting. We also found on a side note two soot sprites for our love for Ghibli and Totoro which I tagged on my FB as my Waifu and I.  😀

Whereas the events were fun and all and we did love the Zelda Based Scavenger Hunt Linda’s daughter and she had come up with and the hard work and effort of the volunteers assisted with on the hand crafted Link items for the event. There was also two musical events for everyone as well at AB The Final Fantasy themed Formal for Day one’s Evening festivities and The Techno Electro Dance Day Two’s evening of festivities that were well received, however there were some incidents during The Techno Electro Dance which Xander whose event it was will be looking into and discussing at the first meeting for Anime Banzai 2016, which I hope goes well as the incidents do need to be looked into and investigated and handled all of which will not be discussed here at all. It is and will be something handled internally with The Anime Banzai Staff and Founders.

I am looking forward to next year’s Event and will be following up on what and who may be showing up at Anime Banzai 2016, so stay tuned and stay informed. That’s it for me for this year’s Anime Banzai review, and as always comments is always welcome, but again keep it civil as well.

Salt Lake City Comicon Review 2015

Hey everyone, I am back from Salt Lake Comicon! Spending some quality time with my wife and #SLCC15 #EPIC .My Wife and I took in the first panel of the Convention which was Marina Sirtis and her panel was pretty funny.  It was fantastic, we took in a number of panels and even got interviewed by none other than Skelator Ace Report of #IdiotBoxProductions Podcast aka #IBP AT 1:06 CHECK IT OUT #SkelatorAceReporter

I didn’t know that Menopause was such a big part of her life as of late. ( Oo; really…. not joking need to check it out) then we just sat in the grand ballroom for the next Panel which was the one my waifu (My wife) and I were waiting for the Scott Wilson Panel. He’s had a long filming career and I didn’t even know he was in the late samurai movie. The Q & A were pretty funny as well and afterwards we strolled around checking the Dealers Floor and checking out some of the awesome Cosplayers that were there. Plus #JohnBarrowman was there #GOTEAMBARROWMAN ! Oh and we got to hear him sing, brought a tear to these old eyes. Here is the panel itself enjoy it please!

I ran into #ShelyLundberg and #NathanJodzko #DenverBradbury and other friends while my wife and I were there. Got a chance to get #PhelpBrothers autographs, as well as #JennaColeman. I was Cosplaying the entrepreneuring Aperture/BlackMesa Double agent-Scientist (Since I could) and ran into the #Glitch booth and found an excellent #Aperture Polo I can wear at work. Wife bought some small items from artists alley. I got a ton of pics as well and I will update this later when I have access to my camera soon.

I think the only real issue I have with #SaltLakeComicon is the fact they close the dealers room WAY too early. I’ve been #SDCC as some of you know in my younger days, and I will say the dealers room there stays open till 9 pm for two of the 3 days it was open and then till 3 to 4 pm on the last day for tear down and clean up. But they kept the rooms open because they knew there would be those that came in late due to work or whatever, but it gave them a chance to get the items they wanted to get for their collection/cosplay/library/props. On a side note I am hoping that #SaltLakeComicon gets #PeterCapaldi to come to #FanX1016 that way I can get his autograph with #jennacolemans ‘s on the photo we picked up at The Con a couple of days ago.

Oh yea, #ChrisEvans and some of the marvel avengers were there too. 😛

OH Ok, fine yea he was there with #HayleyAtwell #SebastianStan and #AnthonyMackie they did a panel or two togther as a group and individually as well. The Celebrity Row was PACKED to the brim Saturday for autographs and pictures with the Marvel team and I think we might even see #SLCC become one of Marvel’s Fave Conventions to come to as well in the near future, after all #Stanlee did say we had the Greatest Convention so far. My hat is tipped to #DanFarr and #BryanBradenburg for a successful Convention and turn out, and I do hope that they’ll consider having the dealers room open just a little bit longer on the next Convention or maybe even at #FanX to experiment and see how the crowds react to it and see if more purchasing and people come as well.

GhoStock 2014 Pre-con special

Image

Hello folks, Max here.  We did a quick little podcast with our guest Patrick Burns, with my wife, Star, lending some support hosting duties.

Quick info: GhoStock is a paranormal convention.  This iteration is based in Savannah Georgia, back to where it began.  It is scheduled for the weekend of March 7-9th, 2014, at the Hilton Desoto hotel.  For more information, check out the website here at. http://ghostock.com/

I will actually be working at the con, handling a lot of the filming duties, and expect a live stream broadcast of the convention.  If you can make it, please do.  And here is the interview.

here we are discussing about Anime Banzai 9 and talking about the BGC Kickerstarter going to Blue Ray. We’re also Discussing The OVA Series City No.6 and how Utopia really isn’t what it’s cracked up to be.

Nov 23rd Bitches, you better have it marked because if you miss the 50th Doctor Who Special, well yea……..

I am ashamed of my species.

Ok, so I was on Facebook yesterday and I saw a post from one of my fellow Otaku and part of the staff at Anime Banzai and was like what!? It dealt with one the European gaming Expos. One the Journalists that was there covering the event who writes for http://indiehaven.com as well as other various online gaming publications, which wasn’t the problem.

The problem was that some British comedian dehumanized, humiliated and socially scarred this person all because she was transgendered. Well even though the people/event staff apologized to her, they refused to present the comedian that caused the whole stinking mess in the first place. Microsoft Public Relations European offices really screwed the pooch raw on this. The whole event was a shambles and Microsoft should MAKE the person they hired for this event not only publicly apologize to her but hand writes a written apology as well. We’re supposed to be a kind humble species, but when I see this type of shit, and yes shit, crapfest, shitstorm happening?

I’m ashamed to even be connected to the human race as a species. It should not matter, whether you’re Chinese, Korean, British, Scandinavian, Russian, American, black, white, yellow, blue, green or freaking purple, Gay, transgendered or transsexual or A-sexual! You should treat everyone -e.v.e.r.y.o.n.e with respect, even if you don’t agree with them, show the courtesy of respect. I heard the Kotaku was going to run an article on it and that the journalist requested that they not run the article well that didn’t happen.

From what I do see they have ran it and also went back and edited out her twitter account as to not encourage more wastes of humanity to post hate tweets on her twitter Thanks Kotaku. http://kotaku.com/xbox-one-presenter-humiliated-me-on-stage-says-transge-1421596988

*Ultimate facepalm*

Damn the human race is in a sorry state.
No wonder The Doctor turns his back on us from time to time.

EDIT: I have read that there may have a miscommunication btw the two people involved on this. Here is the URL with the explination http://www.frasermillward.com/apps/blog still doesn’t condone how the person handled the matter when inviting Ms. Dale to the stage. I standby by my belief on how people should be treated regardless of race, disability, gender, or species. Facts remain however that during the incident and up to before that “Joint” decision/blog entry on Mr. Willward’s blog that Ms. Dale did get threatening, demeaning and just plain mean tweets from people she has no clue of. Oh and to note, I never gave name of who the MS Microsoft hired either. The whole debaacle seems to have gone to a dull roar, but this doesn’t change how this poster feels when situations like this “do” happen, it’s wrong, it’s not justified, and it’s definitely not the way a decent human would act.

 ToshoCon The Aftermath Review

Alright, so it’s the end of the weekend and we all go back to work in the morning. I do have to admit I did enjoy myself somewhat at this event. There was the cosplaying and panels like the hetalia one of my daughters ended up being on the panel (not sure how that one came about either). There was a Manga swap where you bring a book in take a different book out, which was fun and helpful towards the library system as well. There was a great turn out.

The Anime Crafts was well handled and received; lots of the attendees had fun. There was a photography setup for those attending the convention (Yea I got one of myself there). There was also a viewing room playing some of the more recent popular anime series out there, Black Butler, Tsubasa, and ect. There was a dealer’s room and also Anime Banzai to gather some recruit attendees as well for the last day of pre-registration for the Convention in Layton on Oct 18th thru the 21st.  There was even a small dance there as well that the attendees had a fun blast at and enjoyed the time.

Now here is what in my opinion needed to be looked into and fixed.  There was supposed to be a weapons check, there was none and two attendees were seen bringing in two weapon grade swords which if there had been a weapons check? They would have been detained and told go the fu** home and come back w/o the weapons. Unless they were made of foam or cardboard or plastic, they were NOT ALLOWED.

1001925_10151821596475539_1602584454_n

So that will be something to look into and create a team detail for.  Also The Cosplay event, I’d say about 85% of the cosplay that was there were online costumes or from a local cosplay shop, which really did disappoint me. I loved however those that did create their own cosplays of their characters, those I do tip my hat to. I did see a number of hetalia and Homestuck there and there a few bronies as well. There was even some sailor scouts and Vocaloids as well who had created their designs and who should have won at the cosplay portion of the event.

Also, I saw “Epic Games” was to be there as well as a vendor, I come and I see “Epic *puzzle* & Games” instead being there as a vendor. When I hear and see “Epic Games” being at a con I expect the gaming studio “Epic Games” to be there. That was very disappointing. The Game room, no offense to the card gamers, but it was 99% Yugio Card gamers, no video consoles or arcade booths just Card games and not a wide variety either. Triple slash Studios from the U of U had submitted a Vendor’s form to attend ToshoCon and help out in the game room with demoing their game that’s on the X-Box Arcade store, Magnetic by Nature an awesome arcade side scroller with an Art-Deco feel to it, with the undertones of helping teach people on how magnetics works as well. But somehow no one had received nor got back to them.

Word was that there would be food vendors for the food court out by the outdoor amphitheater. There was a Grinder catering truck where it was five dollars for a grilled cheese sandwich, 8 dollars for a semi decent sub.  I am very likely to throw my hat in in just to get a refresher on convention operations and practices. The Dance was supposed to be from 8 pm to 10 pm, it ended at roughly at 9:15 pm and at 9:45 The PA System explained to the attendees that didn’t have a ride home to start calling their rides for pickup.

So, yea mixed feelings on this event. It was a cool event to have, but there was indeed some areas that need some extreme looking into before next year’s event, which will happen. ToshoCon 2.0 will help next year, time frame not discusses as of yet, but I assure you I will keep apprised of the situations as they come up and come to light on this. For The Cybernauts field review of ToshCon, this is Madarame Harunobu  signing off…………………

Seishun-con report! Summer Anime Madness in Atlanta

Seishun Con 2013
Seishun Con 2013

Hello folks, Max here to step up to the keyboard to post a podcast for the Cybernauts.  Madarame is off on vacation, and well…  honestly, we needed a podcast.  😛

Star and I attended Seishun-con this past weekend and we had a blast.  This was actually the fourth Seishun-con, but this was the first year we had heard about it. Our podcast pretty much covers our exploits at the con.  Being official press for the con, I felt an obligation for the con to post one ASAP.

Seishun-con took place in Marietta, northwest of Atlanta, this year at the Hilton conference center there, and it was the first year it broke the 1,000 attendance record, and next year it shows lots of promise to be even bigger.

And here is the Cybernauts podcast whether it’s work, or a convention or at the beach! Click on the “like us” on our Facebook and subscribe to the show on iTunes! And if possible? rate us at iTunes while you’re there, we apperciate and listen to our listeners.

Cosplayer Pillows: The Creepiness involved.

Ok seriously, this cosplay body pillow incident really grabs my goat. Now I get the whole “You buy a pass to the con, your image could be used for advertising/promotional images”. I’m all for that, I get it and approve. However, when someone takes your photo for supposed free photo-shoots? An alarm in my head goes off. Why would this person be doing it for free? Then to come find out they are placing thee images on Body Pillows with both a front and rear motif and making profit on it w/o the consent of the cosplay/DA Member/Cosplay Prof. and that doesn’t Jive in my book.

cosplay_reference_by_imagesolutions2-d5mf9qh

The image above was taken from his gallery and set as a prime example of what he’s doing with the images and Body Pillows.

This is not only creepy, it’s illegal (unless you are under contact or signed a photo release agreement of some sort and read the fine pint.) This person is more or less going to appear in court and get raked over the coals you can see it coming. I hope all of the people involved are filing a class action suite against this twatwaffle. You don’t do that to somebody without their *signed* consent and even then where the hell is your moral fiber you dingleberry!
